Objective(s): Colomac Gold Mine was closed in 1996 and is now under the care and maintenance of INAC. Mine water is accumulating in the Tailings Containment Area (TCA) and the mine pits and will have to be released to the environment within a few years. Under the remediation plan the mine water will be released into a chain of ponds and lakes that eventually lead into the Indin River system. This release path will pass through three small waterbodies (North Pond, Unnamed Lake, and L-Shaped Lake) that have not previously been surveyed. INAC has requested that Rescan conduct three sampling trips; 1) under-ice sampling of water quality in May; 2) additional water sampling and fisheries surveys in June; and 3) a full baseline environmental survey in September.
