Project Description: Exploration efforts at the Damoti Lake property (concentrating on the Horseshoe Zone) are intended to improve gold-bearing ore estimates at the site. As part of the pre-feasibility work, alternatives for tailings disposal will be studied, including depositing tailings into natural water bodies (Lardass Lake, Unnamed Lake, Pond 1 and 2), and/or using land-based methods, such as thickened tailings and paste deposition.
Sampling will include under-ice water sampling in lakes in the spring, water quality sampling in streams and stream discharge during freshet, seasonal water quality sampling in lakes and streams, stream discharge, fish habitat, fish population and health studies, primary and secondary producer sampling, and fish spawning surveys. Anticipated fish species include: lake trout (Salvelinus Namaycush), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), whitefish (Coregonus sp., Propsopium sp.), northern pike (Esox lucius), burbot (Lota lota), sculpin (Cottus sp.), ninespine stickleback (Pungitius pungitius) and minnows. Sample sizes are unknown. A portion of each species caught will be lethally sampled to collect various structures. All fish sampled live will be returned to the water where they were caught. Sampling locations will be accessed by foot, helicopter or boat.

The results of the baseline studies will be communicated through submission of plain language reports to the Aurora Research Institute and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
Fieldwork will take place from June 30 to September 30, 2006 at the following locations: L-1 (control: 64° 8' 13.99"N 115° 4' 28.29"W); L-2 (Unnamed Lake: 64° 8' 2.74"N 115° 5' 56.45"W); L-3 (Lardass Lake: 64° 8' 0.22"N 115° 6' 47.60"W); L-4 (Pond 1: 64° 8' 23.94"N 115° 5' 47.72"W); and L-5 (Pond 2: 64° 8' 32.42"N 115 °5' 39.12"W).
