Objective(s): To collect information that will be used for the design of bridges and culverts for a proposed highway.

Project Description: The information collected will be used for the design of bridges and culverts for the proposed highway.

A detailed assessment will be conducted. The detailed assessment will include:
• Photograph each of the proposed stream crossing sites (approximately 50);
• Establish a tape-line across a representative cross-section of the watercourse within the proposed alignment and measure stream width, depth, water velocity (using a flow meter) and average channel slope;
• Assess channel morphology/ and record evidence of ice activity (ice scars), allowing informed recommendations relating to possible erosion/scour potential.

The research team is working for and with the Gwich'in Development Corp. The research team anticipates obtaining several field assistants from this organization to help in conduct of the field program.

A report will be prepared and submitted to the Gwich'in Development Corporation (GDC). The GDC will forward the results for to GNWT Transportation. The Gwich'in Development Corp will have copies of the report for sharing with the general public as they wish.

The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from July 28, 2014 to September 17, 2014.
